  • The poets of the Persian Golden Age created some of the world's most significant literary works. Rich with poetic imagery, moral reflection and practical wisdom, their writing has influenced generations of authors around the globe. The beauty of the prose was matched by the masterfully intricate bindings that held the works of this cherished literary era.

This design is inspired by a 17th-century binding that originally housed the Bustan, a major work by the Persian author Saadi Shirazi (1210–1291). Born in Shiraz, Iran, the author was known by his pen name, Saadi, and for the quality of his writing and the depth of his social and ethical thoughts, he was given the title "Master of Speech" among other Persian scholars. The power of his writing not only influenced Persian literature but also affected the use of the Persian language in daily life.

The Bustan (known in English as The Orchard) is one of Saadi’s two best-known works. Written entirely in verse, the stories in the book are filled with contemplative thoughts and philosophy.

Today, the historic binding can be found in the British Library. With its delicate botanical patterns, this design reflects the fruits of Saadi’s wisdom.

    • Paperblanks is a Canadian manufacturer that produces quality notebooks that are not only attractive but also extremely well-structured, bound using traditional techniques; the bindings are not glued (a technique that is economical for the manufacturer but eventually leads to page loss) but are instead all sewn.

All Paperblanks notebooks are bound using one of two methods. They are either hand-sewn using 'Coptic' binding, which originated in 4th-century Egypt, or Smythe sewn, which is the most durable binding technique and allows the notebook to lay flat without page loss.

All Paperblanks notebooks use acid-free, archival-quality, high-opacity, finely laid writing paper. Their notebooks also feature a ribbon marker and an inner pocket inside the back cover to store your notes.
