  • Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm were pioneers in the field of folklore, collecting stories from Germany's rich oral tradition to preserve a history that might otherwise have been lost forever. In doing so, they popularized some of today's most enduring fairytales, such as Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, and Sleeping Beauty.

"The Frog Prince; or Iron Henry" was the first story in the 1812 edition of the Brothers Grimm's Children's and Household Tales (Kinder- und Hausmärchen). It tells of a spoiled princess who reluctantly befriends a frog, not knowing it is actually a prince under a witch's spell. In the original story, the curse is lifted when the princess angrily throws the frog against a brick wall, but in later years the Brothers Grimm sanitized the story into the version we know today. This classic tale was considered by the brothers to be the oldest and most beautiful of the stories they collected in German-speaking regions.

The Brothers Grimm set standards for the research and analysis of stories and legends that made them pioneers in the field of folklore in the 19th century. During this time, their collection of fairytales maintained its status as the most popular book in Germany after the Bible. Their legacy was so profound that it extended to forming the basis for many of the Disney animated films and other Hollywood movies we know and love today.

  • Paperblanks is a Canadian manufacturer that produces quality notebooks that are not only attractive but also extremely well-structured, bound using traditional techniques; the bindings are not glued (a binding technique that is economical for the manufacturer but eventually leads to page loss) but are instead all sewn.

All Paperblanks notebooks are bound using one of two methods. They are either hand-sewn using 'Coptic' binding, which originated in 4th-century Egypt, or Smythe-sewn, which is the most durable binding technique and allows the notebook to open flat without page loss.

All Paperblanks notebooks use acid-free, archival-quality, high-opacity, fine-laid writing paper. Their notebooks also feature a ribbon page marker and an inner pocket inside the back cover for storing your notes.
