  • Indulge in luxury with the brass and majestic blue tones of this Blue Luxe cover design. Prepared in the heart of Amsterdam in 1715, the original book was bound in goatskin with elaborate gold tooling. Inside the binding was the Oratio Dominica (The Lord's Prayer) in approximately 150 languages and dialects, most with both a Latin translation and original script, written either engraved in the text or on fold-out plates. Compiled by the English courtier John Chamberlayne, the document received global attention. The second part of the original binding contained nine important essays on fonts and languages, including the first publication of De Variis Linguis by the great German philosopher and scholar G.W. Leibniz.

The intricate details of this design reflect the tapestry of cultures on its original pages. The translations extended from Europe and Asia to Arabia, Persia, Syria and Turkey. Chamberlayne, an author and translator himself, spoke 16 languages.

Let the many cultures that lived within this 18th-century work inspire you against the majestic backdrop of Blue Luxe.

  • Paperblanks is a Canadian manufacturer that produces quality journals that are not only attractive but also extremely well-structured and bound using traditional techniques; the bindings are not glued (a binding technique that is economical for the manufacturer but eventually leads to page loss) but are instead all sewn.

All Paperblanks journals are bound using one of two methods. They are either hand-sewn using 'Coptic' binding, which originated in 4th-century Egypt, or Smyth sewn, the most durable binding technique, which allows the journal to open flat without losing pages.

All Paperblanks journals use acid-free, archival-quality, high-opacity, finely laid writing paper. Their journals also feature a ribbon page marker and an inner pocket inside the back cover to store your notes.
