Our Enigma design is inspired by a cover attributed to Le Gascon, a legendary but unidentified 17th-century bookbinder. The original was crafted from red morocco leather, embossed and gilded with rosettes, spirals and dotted lines, but here we have used an alluring black background to emphasize its mysterious origins.

Paperblanks is a Canadian manufacturer that produces quality journals that are not only attractive but also extremely well-structured, bound using traditional techniques; the bindings are not glued (a binding technique that is economical for the manufacturer but eventually leads to page loss) but are instead all sewn.
All Paperblanks journals are bound using one of two methods. They are either hand-sewn using 'Coptic' binding, which originated in 4th-century Egypt, or Smyth sewn, which is the most durable binding technique and allows the journal to open flat without page loss.
All Paperblanks journals use acid-free, archival-quality, high-opacity laid writing paper. Their journals also include a ribbon page marker and an inner pocket on the inside of the back cover for storing your notes.
