  • Prepare for liftoff, the next installment in Retro51's Space Shuttle Series is the Space Shuttle Columbia. — Launched from Kennedy Space Center in April 1981, Columbia was the first NASA orbiter to reach space. Over its lifespan, it spent 300 days in space and orbited the Earth 4,000 times. This shuttle was an incredibly innovative step for space travel, flying twenty-seven successful missions that helped expand our understanding of the universe. Despite its many successful missions, Columbia's 28th and final flight ended tragically on February 1, 2003, after spending 16 days in space. The seven brave crew members have been honored by the Patricia Huffman Smith Museum, the Columbia Memorial Space Center, and numerous dedications and media tributes.
In recognition of the scientific achievements of Columbia's many astronauts and flight crews, Retro51 is releasing the second design in the Space Shuttle Series. This Tornado Rollerball is printed with shuttle graphics, including the NASA logo, finished with black nickel accents. This limited edition of 1,958 pieces is engraved with a serial number on the top ring and completed with the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation logo on the finial. For every Space Shuttle Columbia pen purchased, a donation will be made to the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF) to help inspire the next generation of heroes and explorers. Add the Space Shuttle Columbia design to your collection and feel the inspiration at your fingertips. This 2023 Tornado limited edition pen is individually engraved with its edition number on the top ring. The "Columbia" design is limited to 1,958 pieces worldwide and is packaged in a commemorative graphic tube. Retro 51 donates a portion of the proceeds from each sale to the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization created in 1984 by the Mercury 7 astronauts to encourage university students to pursue scientific excellence.
